Siren

“Offers you the thing you most wanted to know.”

The Siren is the Ancient Zodiac sign for a Pisces born in the Year of the Dragon, the point where the Pisces sun meets the Dragon moon.

The Pisces-Dragon, known as the Siren, is imagination with genuine power behind it. Pisces brings depth, artistry, and an instinct for what someone is longing for. The Dragon brings magnetism, ambition, and the confidence to use it. The result is someone compelling, creative, and capable of pulling people considerably off their intended course. The sirens in Homer were not romantic figures and were not fish. They were bird-women on an island of bones, and what they sang was not seduction but knowledge: they promised Odysseus they would tell him everything that happens on the wide earth, and that was the offer he could not refuse. He had to be tied to the mast to survive hearing it. The lure was never beauty. It was the thing he most wanted to understand. Pisces-Dragons are charismatic, artistic, and unusually good at perceiving what a person is secretly after. They make extraordinary company, they change the direction of other people's lives, and they are often surprised by how much weight their words carry. The risk is the shoreline: influence this strong is easy to use half-consciously, and someone who can offer people exactly what they want should be careful what they are steering them toward. The name fits because a siren's power is comprehension, not glamour. Anyone can sing prettily. This is the voice that knows what you have been trying to find out, and says it will tell you.

Pisces

“Two fish, one cord, and they are swimming apart.”

Pisces is mutable water ruled by Neptune, the last sign, and it inherits something from all eleven before it. The boundary between itself and everyone else is thin to the point of not being there, which produces real empathy, real imagination, and a tendency to absorb whatever is in the room and mistake it for weather of its own. It is the most artistic sign and the most porous. The constellation is two fish tied together by a cord, and the knot is the whole point. Aphrodite and Eros, fleeing Typhon, took fish form and bound themselves so they could not be separated in the water, which is why the two fish are always drawn swimming in opposite directions with the tie still holding. The star at the knot is called Alrescha, the cord. The sign is also where the sun now sits at the spring equinox, having drifted there over two thousand years, so the year quietly begins in Pisces while every chart still calls that point Aries. A Pisces is the one who understood what you meant rather than what you said, who makes things, who forgives faster than is sensible. They are intuitive, funny in an oblique way, and much tougher than the softness suggests. The cost is the cord: pulled in two directions at once, giving until there is nothing to give, and escaping into something, work or fantasy or a person, rather than saying no.

Dragon

“Could have won it, and stopped to make it rain.”

The Dragon is the only creature in the cycle that never existed, and it is the most admired sign in it. This is scale, charisma and ambition, the animal that fills a room without effort and is expected to do something remarkable with the space. In China it is the imperial symbol and a bringer of rain, which means power and generosity are supposed to be the same gesture. Its place in the race is the best answer to why it is not first. The Dragon could fly. It should have crossed the river before anything else got wet, and when the Jade Emperor asked what had delayed it, the Dragon explained that it had passed a village suffering a drought and stopped to bring them rain, then seen a small animal struggling on a log and blown it safely to shore. That animal was the Rabbit, which finished ahead of it. The Dragon came fifth, having given away four places doing exactly what dragons are for. Dragon people are confident, generous and often genuinely lucky, and they attract expectation from the moment they arrive anywhere. They champion people and take real risks on their behalf. The cost is the altitude: pride that cannot easily admit a mistake, a low tolerance for the ordinary middle of any project, and the quiet strain of being the one everybody assumes does not need helping.

Zodiac Interplay

Polarity: Moonrise

Quiet on the surface, engine running underneath.

You do not announce things. You go away, think it through, come back with it finished, and let the work do the talking. People tend to underestimate you exactly once - usually right before you hand them something they could not have built.

Modality and Direction: Wayfarer

Every door is a door worth opening.

Adaptable energy pointed east toward growth. You are congenitally curious and constitutionally unfinished - you collect skills, places and people the way others collect certainty, and it makes you excellent company.

Elemental Cycle: Delta

Where the river slows down, everything grows.

Solar water settling into lunar earth. You turn feeling into fertility - the emotions other people drown in, you deposit as soil, and the result is a life other things can grow in.

Overcoming. Earth checks water. Your Dragon half sets the limit and your Pisces half works inside it.
