Wolverine
“Small enough to ignore, and it takes the kill anyway.”
The Wolverine is the Ancient Zodiac sign for a Scorpio born in the Year of the Tiger, the point where the Scorpio sun meets the Tiger moon.
The Scorpio-Tiger, known as the Wolverine, is the highest concentration of nerve on the wheel. Scorpio brings intensity, endurance, and a refusal to yield anything. The Tiger brings courage and an appetite for the confrontation. Together they make someone disproportionate: more force, more will, and more sheer refusal than the situation appears to contain. A wolverine weighs about as much as a medium dog and has been recorded driving bears and whole wolf packs off their kills. It crosses mountain ranges alone in deep winter, one tracked animal covering five hundred miles through terrain nothing else was moving in. Its fur does not hold frost, which is why it was prized for the hoods of parkas in the Arctic. Its scientific name means glutton twice over, and the animal earned it by never once conceding a meal. Scorpio-Tigers are intense, self-reliant, and largely indifferent to odds. They take on things far above their weight, they hold grudges with real stamina, and they are ferociously protective of the very few people they let close. The risk is that everything is a contest: enormous energy spent on ground that was not worth crossing a mountain range for. The name fits because a wolverine is the least reasonable animal in the north. Alone, outweighed, in the worst weather on the continent, and it has never yet been persuaded to back off anything.

Scorpio
“All or nothing, and it decided which some time ago.”
Scorpio is fixed water ruled by Pluto, and it is the sign of depth in the literal sense: what is underneath, what is not being said, what people do when they think nobody is reading them. It is intense by default rather than by choice, loyal to very few, and constitutionally incapable of the middle setting on anything that matters. Its constellation carries the sky's most explicit grudge. Orion boasted he could kill every animal on earth, and a scorpion was sent to stop him, and it did. The two were placed at opposite ends of the heavens so they can never appear together: as Scorpius rises in the south, Orion is already setting in the west, still fleeing after several thousand years. The scorpion's heart is Antares, a red supergiant whose name means the rival of Mars, because it burns the same colour as the war planet and refuses to be mistaken for anything lesser. A Scorpio reads people accurately and says almost none of it out loud. They keep confidences absolutely, commit totally when they commit at all, and are excellent in a crisis because intensity is their resting state. The cost is the memory: this sign does not simply recall a betrayal, it files it, and the door that closes afterwards is not the kind that reopens because someone apologised well.

Tiger
“Went straight through the current, and arrived furious.”
The Tiger is courage, appetite and a refusal to be managed. It is the sign that goes at a problem directly, trusts its own strength before it trusts a plan, and finds obedience physically uncomfortable. Magnetic in a room, competitive without much calculation, and honest largely because subtlety feels like a form of cowardice. In the race it did the thing everyone else was trying to avoid. The Tiger swam, into a current strong enough to push it repeatedly downstream, and fought its way across on power alone while cleverer animals rode, floated and drifted. It arrived third, soaked and exhausted, having been beaten by a passenger and by the animal that carried the passenger. The story does not say it was gracious about this. Nothing in the sign suggests it would have been. Tiger people take on things they have no evidence they can do, and win often enough to keep doing it. They are protective, generous, and physically confident in a way that reassures some people and unsettles others. They are terrible at pretending to agree. The cost is the current: enormous energy spent going straight at what could have been gone around, and a temper that flares fast, burns the whole reserve, and leaves them worn out at exactly the moment the next thing arrives.

Zodiac Interplay
Polarity: Moonrise
Quiet on the surface, engine running underneath.
You do not announce things. You go away, think it through, come back with it finished, and let the work do the talking. People tend to underestimate you exactly once - usually right before you hand them something they could not have built.
Modality and Direction: Evergreen
You grow in every season, including the ugly ones.
Sustaining energy with eastern expansion behind it. Your progress is not dramatic, it is continuous - the compound-interest personality, quietly adding a ring a year while faster things bloom and drop.
Elemental Cycle: Mangrove
Rooted in the tide, and holding the whole coastline together.
Solar water feeding lunar wood. You grow where conditions are difficult and unstable, and what you build there ends up sheltering everything else - the quiet, essential species.
Generating. Water feeds wood. Your Scorpio half is the fuel and your Tiger half is what it becomes.
