Tiger and Goat Compatibility
“One of you goes straight at it. The other one is wondering why it has to be a fight.”
Tiger and Goat make an open ground in the Chinese zodiac, scoring 58 out of 100. That is the tie between the two signs themselves, before anything else about either person is taken into account.
The Reading · Open Ground
Tiger and Goat have no fixed tie in the branch cycle: no inherited alliance, and no inherited quarrel.
Tiger and Goat share no tie and very little temperament. Tiger's answer to a problem is force applied immediately; Goat's is to find a way around it, or to wait, or to hope it resolves, and Goat is genuinely bewildered by how much of a Tiger's life is spent in confrontation. Neither of you is hostile to the other. What happens is more like a permanent mismatch of volume: Tiger operates at a level that a Goat finds physically wearing, and Goat operates at a level that a Tiger struggles even to hear. Nothing in the structure pushes you apart, and nothing pulls you together either.
Goat is a genuine softening influence, and one of the few signs a Tiger will actually gentle down for, because Goat asks nothing and criticises nothing. A Tiger who has been quietly disarmed by a Goat is a much easier person to be. Tiger in return is a formidable protector, and Goat, who is more vulnerable to the world than it likes to admit, benefits enormously from having someone who will simply handle whatever is threatening.
Tiger's temper frightens Goat, and Goat does not say so, it withdraws and becomes vaguer, which Tiger reads as evasion and answers with more force. Goat's indirectness is the other half: it will not state a want plainly, and Tiger does not do hints at all, so Goat goes unattended for years and eventually concludes it was never cared for. Neither of you will have understood what went wrong, because neither of you was ever speaking the other's language.
In the controlling cycle wood checks earth, so Tiger tends to be the brake on Goat. Useful in small doses, exhausting as a daily arrangement.
One yang, one yin: one of you moves first and the other reads the room, which is the oldest working arrangement there is.
