Turkey
“Better than its reputation, and fairer than the winner.”
The Turkey is the Ancient Zodiac sign for a Libra born in the Year of the Dog, the point where the Libra sun meets the Dog moon.
The Libra-Dog, known as the Turkey, has a strong sense of justice and terrible public relations. Libra brings fairness, charm, and a genuine wish for everyone to be treated properly. The Dog brings loyalty and an inability to let a wrong go unmentioned. Together they make someone decent, sociable, and routinely underestimated by people who have only met the caricature. Benjamin Franklin thought the bald eagle a bird of bad moral character, a thief that lived by robbing other birds, and argued the wild turkey was the more respectable animal: native, courageous, and willing to take on an intruder. He was not wrong about the bird. Wild turkeys run at twenty five miles an hour, fly in bursts at over fifty, see in colour across a field of nearly three hundred degrees, and flush the skin of their heads red, white or blue depending on mood. Libra-Dogs are warm company, unusually fair-minded, and quietly stubborn about principle. They mediate well, take an unpopular side when it is the right one, and their feelings are readable on their face whether or not they intend it. The risk is the reputation: they are so unpretentious that the room hands authority to someone louder, and they let it happen rather than make a scene. The name fits because the turkey lost a symbolic contest to a more glamorous bird and remains the better animal on every practical measure. That is this person exactly, and they know it, and they will not campaign about it.

Libra
“The only sign that is a tool, and it was taken from a scorpion.”
Libra is cardinal air ruled by Venus, which makes it the initiating sign of relationship. It leads through people: negotiating, introducing, balancing, making the room work. The charm is real and so is the sense of justice underneath it, and the two are usually deployed together, because Libra would rather settle a thing beautifully than win it. It is also the odd one out. Every other sign in the zodiac is an animal or a person, and Libra is a set of scales, an object with no living body at all. It did not start that way. Those stars were the claws of the neighbouring scorpion, which is why the two brightest still carry Arabic names meaning the southern claw and the northern claw. The Romans separated them out and made them the balance, most likely because the autumn equinox fell there and day and night stood equal. A weapon was taken off a predator and reissued as an instrument for weighing. A Libra keeps the peace, notices who is being left out, and can hold two opposed people in the same conversation without either feeling dismissed. They are excellent company and quietly exacting about fairness. The cost is the pause: weighing a decision so evenly that it never resolves, and a habit of conceding their own position early to keep the balance level.

Dog
“Best swimmer in the race, and stopped for a wash.”
The Dog is loyalty, honesty and a working sense of justice. It defends the people it has taken on, says the awkward true thing rather than the comfortable one, and holds a standard of fairness that it applies to itself first. Anxious under the surface, steady on it, and almost impossible to buy. Its finish is the funniest result in the story and the most revealing. The Dog was the strongest swimmer in the field and should have placed near the front. Instead it treated the river as the best water it had seen in weeks, stopped partway to bathe and play, and wandered in eleventh, second to last, having beaten almost nobody. The Jade Emperor asked what had happened, and the answer amounted to the river being too good to hurry through. Nothing about it was laziness. The Dog simply did not think winning was the point of a river. Dog people are the friends who turn up, defend the absent, and remember who was kind. They are principled, funny, and quietly worried about more things than they let on. The cost is the distraction on the crossing: a nature that will not optimise its own position, and that watches less deserving people finish ahead of it with a mixture of genuine indifference and a grievance it insists it does not have.

Zodiac Interplay
Polarity: Solar Noon
Both engines pointed the same way: forward.
Your solar half leans out toward the world and your lunar half pushes from behind, so there is no internal committee meeting before you act. You are the one saying "let's just go" while everyone else is still reading the reviews, and you are usually already halfway there by the time they agree.
Modality and Direction: Blueprint
Big vision, drawn to scale.
Initiating force refined by western precision. You dream in structures - the plan arrives with load-bearing walls already in it - which means your ambition is never just talk, it is a document with measurements.
Elemental Cycle: Kite
High as you like, as long as somebody holds the string.
Solar air anchored by lunar earth. You go further out on an idea than most people dare, and the reason you can is the grounded line running back to solid ground - practical, patient, holding on.
Overcoming. Air, which holds the wood phase, checks earth. Your Libra half sets the limit and your Dog half works inside it.
